This WP focuses on digital design and modelling practices in nano- and biotechnology. In both fields, highly complex, dynamic and uncertain materials are the object of such practices: nano-particles and biological parts with emerging properties. Digital design methods are expected to enable exciting and profitable market products that will be safe.
In this WP we will look at how different ‘styles of controlling’ are performed in the attempt at producing safe new materials and products. Taking on a reflexive approach, we will address the type of implications, tensions and challenges that those ‘styles’ pose for RRI.This WP combines approaches from STS, the philosophy of technoscience and ethics, bringing these perspectives together through offline/online ethnographic fieldwork.
